No. 21 UNLV women win third straight Mountain West title over SDSU

The women of the No. 21 UNLV squad achieved a third consecutive Mountain West championship with a perfect victory over San Diego State. Desi-Rae Young’s 18 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals drove No. 21 UNLV Women’s decisive victory over San Diego State. Wednesday night, No. 21 UNLV Women defeated San Diego State 66-49 in a basketball match brimming with sporting zeal.

With this astounding triumph, UNLV is the first Mountain West team in three consecutive years to have won both the regular season and tournament championships. After a first-half tally of 20 points, UNLV responded with a significant surge in the third quarter. Ashley’s deep three-pointer and Desi Rae Young’s effective post plays gave No. 21 UNLV Women the lead in the contest. In establishing their 17-point lead, Woman of the Match Desi Rae Young scored four of five goals, while Scoggin, Alyssa Brown, and Amarachi Kimpson each scored three points. 

According to the sports news, Desi-Rae Young injured her left ankle during the match, but she evacuated the playground unassisted. Kiara Jackson finished with 14 points and seven assists, while Scoggin contributed 13 points, and Brown amassed 11 points and nine rebounds. Abby Prohaska earned thirteen points for San Diego State, which was seeded seventh. Notably, San Diego State led 12-10 entering the second quarter, and UNLV made only four of fourteen goals in the first quarter.

Alyssa Brown leads UNLV Women in victories with consistency. Amarachi Kimpson represented the American South as an accomplished basketball player at the 2019 Junior NBA Global Championships. Amarachi Kimpson, Desi Rae Young, and Alyssa Brown are invaluable assets for the No. 21 UNLV Women. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas women’s basketball team is known as the UNLV. Lindy La Rocque coaches the UNLV Women’s team, and the organization has earned the appropriate moniker “Lady Rebels.”
