Nevada betting handle scripts history in the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl happened in Las Vegas. The event has been gaining attention since the day it was announced as the host of the mega event. It signified that Las Vegas would establish itself as an exemplary contender for all subsequent versions of the Super Bowl. The wagered amount that the betting handle produced is one aspect that has taken center stage.

Specifically for Nevada, it peaked at $185.6 million, breaking the previous record of $179.8 million, set in 2022. Last year saw a dip to $153.2 million. Since Las Vegas was hosting the Super Bowl for the first time, Jay Kornegay from the Westgate SuperBook stated that it only made sense for the betting handle to break all previous records.

There has been a comparison with other events that have happened in the region.

Chuck Esposito, the Sportsbook Director at Red Rock Resort, said that it goes hand in hand with what they see with the Raiders, the Knights, and other events. Chuck added that the betting handle increases every time these events happen in Las Vegas. Esposito added that the early wagers made them confident of achieving a higher number in this edition.

Michael Lawton, the Senior Economic Analyst from NGCB, has credited this phenomenon to the matchup of two big teams. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the second and third consecutive times in the last five years. The San Francisco 49ers missed out on their chance of bagging a win but set a tone for what fans can look forward to in the next edition.

A total of eight places recorded bets worth $1 million or more; five of them hail from Las Vegas. Three such bets were recorded from BetMGM and the remaining two from Circa Sports. NGCB Chairman Kirk Hendrick has congratulated all the stakeholders for this achievement in a release.

The Super Bowl LVIII has been defined as an upset for the 49ers. They were leading till halftime despite bagging a no-score in the first quarter. The Chiefs were in the same position, but the 49ers gained support before halftime, taking a 7-point lead. Kansas City bounced back heavily by restricting their opponent to nothing as they went on to score 10 points and then 6 in the last quarter. The game went to overtime, where the Chiefs delivered a 3-point deficit to San Francisco.

Las Vegas is now eyeing hosting more Super Bowl events in the future. With that, NGCB is optimistic that another historic record will be made in betting handles if the NFL brings the Super Bowl back to the region, a prospect that excites online football betting sites, anticipating a surge in wagering activity surrounding the prestigious event.

There are records showing that the TV broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII has broken the rating for the Apollo moon landing.
